Already being used?

Hello,
Whenever I open anything in windows XP in office 2000 it
always says "File is already being used by another user do
you want to make a copy" I have no idea how to stop this
and it is really agitating. How do I stop this? Thanks.

Do you have any hidden files in the documents directory starting with "~"?
If so, delete them, it may help
