Alt-click and Research - any way to delink?

I know this has been asked several times. I don't have a problem with the
idea of the research feature, but Alt-click is such a terrible key pair to
assign to it. I'm always making it start when all I want to do is adjust a
table border very slightly. All I have to do is be a little off-target, and
up it comes again. Since we don't have access to any of the dictionaries
anyway, it takes several seconds to decide it has a problem before allowing
me to get rid of it, which just compunds things.

Is there really no way of delinking it from Alt-click? Please!

Sorry. There is no way - or no way anybody has yet found - to disable this
annoying feature.
