Does anyone know if it is possible to add alternative text to images
and graphics inserted into an Office document (Word/PowerPoint/Excel)
on a Macintosh? If so, how and which version does this become
available? If not, workarounds?

Since you're from the OSU Web Accessibility Center, I'm assuming you're
talking about an Office document that is saved as a web page, right?

Unfortunately, no Mac version allows alt text.

For the occasional web page, hand editing the HTML file in TextEdit is
probably sufficient.

For large-scale document production, it could be done using VBA or
Applescript. I've designed macros that save as Web pages, then read the
resulting text file and clean it up. It wouldn't be hard to adapt one to
include an alt argument in an <img> tag. Determining what text value
would be associated with that argument could be tricky - either it would
have to be interactive, or it would have to use fields, defined names,
or something.

Hi Lori,

Be sure to send feedback to Microsoft using the feedback feature on the
help menu if you wish to request that this functionality be added in the
future.

Thanks.
