Alternative to Synchronizing

B

Benn Vosloo

Hi

I work for a flower export company. Our entire production
is run
on an Access 2000 Database. 10 Users with a front-end on
their PCs
linked to the tables on a central PC.

2 Notebooks with replicas of the Database need to be
synchronized
from time to time ( once or twice a year ). My
designed the
database. Their are no set relationships between the
tables so we
have problems every now and then. The Synchronizing also
stopped
working. I gives a error "Search key could not be found"
when
I try to synchronize. I tried everything. Mdac updates,
Jet updates
etc. If I create new replicas the synchronizing works for
a week or
so and then the same error occurs.

Can anybody please help or recommend an alternative?

Hi Benn,

Check out www.trigeminal.com. Michael Kaplan is an expert at
replication issues.

Are there really changes happening on the notebooks that don't come back
to the central databases for months? If not, can't you just slam a
whole copy of the central database onto them when they visit?

Are the notebooks truly disconnected when they are away? If they can
reach the internet, you could create a web application to allow them to
work remotely on the central database.

Hi,

on 6th September, Klik! Software is going to officially announce it's tool
called Klik! DataCompareLib to compare and synchronize Data differences in
MSAccess 97/2000/XP/2003 databases which will be very usefull for situations
like yours I think...

In the following days, there will be even a developer edition which will
allow you to do the synchronization inside your application via code so this
option will be hopefully much better for you...

Best Regards,
