Am I able to retrieve a file which had been minimized that I opened by
mistake and did not save (because I thought it had already been saved)?
Surely it still has to be in a trash can somewhere where I can find it!

I don't follow this as there's no logic in the events you describe. If you
open a document (deliberately or in error) and close it without saving it,
the document will still be in its original location. Minimizing won't lose a
document either. If the document has gone, then you deleted it and it should
be in the Recycle Bin where you can restore it.

If you CREATED a new document and NEVER saved it, then it is gone forever.
It only ever existed in system memory and once you said NO to 'Do you want
to save...', it was gone forever.
