Amazon.com Research Service for Office 2003

I’m trying to find the “solution†described in a joint Microsoft-Amazon press
release issued October 7, 2003 and available at
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2003/oct03/10-07AmazonMSOffice2003PR.asp.

According to the release, the free download was to be available “later this
[2003] fall in the Office Marketplace
(http://www.office.microsoft.com/marketplace/), but I can’t find it there or
on the Amazon Web Services site. The only recent and relevant information
seems to be at:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d.../html/OfficeCreateAnAmazonResearchService.asp

But that’s not a “solution†for those of us who just want to make use of
this Research Service from within Office 2003. And no one at MSDN seems to
know anything about the solution advertised in the press release.

Can anyone provide an update on the status of this project?

Unfortunately, those links point to the same information that I cited in my
original question. I've searched microsoft.com, the Knowledge Base, the
Amazon Web site, and the Web with various search engines to no avail.

I finally got a reply from Amazon, which pointed me to:

http://www.amazon.com/amazon-research-pane

I installed the service according to the instructions, but when I try to use
it via the Research Pane in Word, I get an error message that says the
research service failed to start. I've tried to use the service on a couple
of computers (both running Windows XP Professional Edition with SP2 and all
updates) with a variety of Web connections, with the same results.

Has anyone else tried this solution from Amazon with better results? Any
ideas?
