An error message shows when I start outlook, then it closes-why?

When I start Outlook 2003, I receive the error message "Unable to open your
default email folders". When I click OK, the whole program window shuts and
closes. This is a new problem after years of trouble-free use. Timing of
problem seems to co-incide with norton antivirus configuration issues.

Use Control Panel's Mail applet to properly configure Outlook's data file
prior to starting Outlook.

Have you been able to resolve this issue? I am trying to use Outlook
2007 client on Windows XP (ALL the latest security/OS updates) against
Exchange 2003. Cannot get it to connect. Using Outlook 2003 client
it actually works. Looking at the different groups on Google I see a
number of different suggestions...none have worked for me.
The message I receive is "Cannot open your default e-mail folder. You
must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you
can synchronize your folders with your offline folder file."
Anyway, I know this is NOT much detail about my configuration. But, I
would very much appreciate detailed instructions on installing/
configuration Outlook 2007 client against Exchange 2003 server.

Thanks!
John
