An error occured while loading 'Sheet1111111111111111'

I have a file that was created in Excel 97. When I open it
with Excel 2002, I get the following message:
An error occured while
loading 'Sheet1111111111111111111111111111'. Do you want
to confinue loading the project?
If I click "Yes", a portion of the sheet appears, then
Excel blows up. If I click "No", I get "Device I/O error.

I appreciate any suggestions on fixing this problem.
