An old document stays on screen won't allow me to start a new blank doc

When I open up word an old blank document that I did a long time ago always pops up. Even when I click on new blank document to try to do a new doc, the old document stays on the screen and won't allow me to start from scratch with a new document. I've tried closing it out with no success. The old document is saved as a doc.x. Can someone please help?

You've somehow managed to save the content in your Normal.dotm template. You
can correct it in either of two ways:

1- If you don't have any customizations to be concerned about you can simply
trash the template (while Word isn't running) then launch Word & let it
build a new one. It will take an additional few seconds for Word to start up
the first time while it recreates the template,

2- If you do have any customizations you want to preserve navigate via File>
Open to: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User
Templates/Normal.dotm, then open Normal.dotm, delete the unwanted content,
then Save & Close the file.

Either way your next new document should be blank.

Hi Joana:

Which of the methods Bob suggested did you try?

If you have the same problem, just do what he says.

Cheers
