Anchoring a Comment to a Cell...

I am using comments as cell notes (currently using Excel 2000):
1) I need to anchor each comment to the cell it pertains to so that when I
reedit it later, the comment will display at the cell where I originally
placed it not somewhere else on the worksheet. When I insert or delete rows
or columns, each existing comment below or to the right moves away from its
cell when I reopen it for editing. This simply won't do. I tried changing
the Comment Format Properties to "Move but don't size with cells" and then I
"anchored" the top left corner of each comment within the cell it pertains
to. This helped reduce the amount of movement caused by added/deleted
rows/columns, but the subsequent comments still move in edit mode.
2) I need to size the comment box once to fit the comment on multiple lines
and have it stay the same size until I resize it. Currently, adding or
deleting rows changes the size.

Hi Geno -

Unless I completely fail to grasp your message I don't see any of the
behavior you describe. But then again, this is the Mac XL newsgroup.

I can't recall about XL 2000, but I don't see these problems in 2003 either.

Comments *are* by default 'anchored' to the cell to which they pertain, &
when you simply point to the cell the comment will always appear adjacent to
that cell - even if you drag the comment elsewhere while editing.

The next time I edit a comment it appears in the location to which I last
moved it - regardless of inserting/deleting columns, rows or cells -
relative to the new position of the cell. IOW, the editing position & the
display position are not one in the same. This is true even with the default
format properties. The default location (top of comment) is a bit above &
right of the cell, with the arrow connector pointing to the red marker in
the upper right corner of the cell.

Also, the size of the comment window doesn't change on my system unless I
resize it. When I do, it remains whatever size I adjust it to. Again,
inserting or deleting rows & columns has no effect on the comment's window
size.

You might check in the PC XL newsgroup - perhaps someone can offer a fix.
