Animation effects - confused with 0, 1, 2, 3 ......

I am clear about the icons beside on click (mouse), with previous (blank) and
after previous (L in a circle), but I am quite confused about 0, 1, 2, 3
....... Do you call them "tags" or "sequence" or "sequenced tags?"

(1) Is it true that only numbers **greater than** zero will go hand in hand
with on click? 1= effect on first click, 2 = effect on second click etc.,
right?

(2) I have seen zero beside "with previous" and "after previous"
respectively. But I don't think I have seen zero beside "on click." What
does zero indicate?

(3) Sometimes I see zero beside the effect on the custom animation list
**and** beside the object/picture on the slide in normal view. Sometimes I
see zero beside the object/picture only but NOT beside the effect on the
custom animation list. I am confused.

Appreciate someone shedding light on this.

The oval doesn't have a 0 in front of it on the task pane because it's part
of the "chunk" of auto animations, and it relies on the first animation in
the chunk. So the first one (the rectangle) is the only one with the number
in the task pane because it initiates the chunk of auto animations.

But both the rectangle and the oval have zeros beside them on the slide so
you know they are animated and when (in what "chunk").

Even if you change the start setting of the oval to "with previous," the
principle's still the same.

I am 100% clear about all the 0's and 1+2+3 ...... (See another scenario
below.) I wonder if I can just close my eyes on them, as long as I make
sure that the animation effects appear to be what I want.

My observation:

Continuation of my last post

Yes, it did take on the "0" from the other effects. When I deleted the
other effects, the taskpane showed both "1" and "0." I think I am getting
there.

By the way, this is the first time I creates a thread using Outlook Express.
I have got rid of all the obstacles and I can use OE as a newsgroup reader
with ease. I am a happy camper now and I know what I have missed when I
used the web interface. One drawback is I can only rate the answers helpful
using web interface.

Just when I think I have got it all ......

I think "with previous" and "after previous" will only have "0" and no "1"
which is for "on click" only. Think again. To my surprise, they can have a
"1" beside the object on the slide.

Using Echo's example, if the rectangle is "on click," it will have "1."
The oval will also have "1" if it starts "with previous" or "after
previous." If we just look at the slide and not the animation task pane, we
can only tell that the effects of these two objects are in a "chunk" but we
can't tell if they happen simultaneously or one after the other, let alone
which one goes first.

Echo, I don't know what I do without your "chunk" concept. Thanks a lot!

Shawn, if you read this, please tell me if you ever look at those numbers.
I know you have over 300 animation effects for your movie and I can get
confused with just two effects. <g>

By the way, if anybody cares, those numbers (0, 1, 2, 3 .....) are called
non-printing numbered tags. I got this from the PPT help feature.
