animation timing lost when presenting on strange computer

so, i spent a lot of time creating a custom animation as part of a
presentation for my boss to give last week. since the presentation was
happening in a secure facility, it had to be delivered using one of the
facility's computers. the timing of the animation was not followed at all.
things happened in the right order, but did not wait for the clicks or other
timed delays. also, things that were supposed to disappear after a certain
point remained on the screen. the animation was pretty much impossible to
follow.
i don't know what version of powerpoint they had, but this has happened
twice now -- once with a pc and once with a mac.
can someone clue me in? i really don't want to restrict myself to
powerpoint's most basic features because i can't trust the advanced ones to
actually work.

Unfortunately, when you don't know what version of PPT the presentation will
be shown on, you have to restrict yourself to the most basic features.

If you are allowed to present from CD, you could create an autorun CD that
will play the file on the PPT Viewer -- and nothing is installed on the host
computer.

But having the Mac thrown in...well, that creates some additional issues....

As well as the suggestions for using "package for cd" You could tick
Tools>Options>View>disable new animations. You can then use the animations in
ppt 2000 and before.

I work(ed) in a secure unit and know that CDs can be "restricted items" in
some units! (Break them and use the shards as cutting implement!)
