Hi All,
With Office 2008 SR1, Office applications refuse to open files with
outdated Type code through a double-click or drag & drop.
Several threads have been discussing the problem recently and I tried to
come up with a solution for the people who are affected.

I created two scripts that should help correct the problem and thanks to
Steve Maser, I already corrected several issues with the early versions.
The first one works through drag & drop. You can drag files or folders
on it. It will scan the files and update the creator code to be
compatible with Office 2008.
The second one is a folder action script. You can attach it to your
Eudora or FireFox download folder to make sure that all new files
downloaded through these applications end up with the correct (read:
updated) file type.
Use at your won risks!!!
I'm not an expert AppleScripter and there might be a few bugs (mostly
because I type like a pig).
The scripts are editable and you are welcome to take a look at the
sources. What the script does seems pretty harmless to me so it should
trash your entire user account ;-)
All (constructive) comments are much welcome.

PS: the message has been posted in multiple groups without Follow-up to
despite the nettiquette because I'm not sure the Mactopia mirror of the
newsgroups supports follow-ups.
