If you don't know about the Talking Moose then you're missing Macintosh
history.
In 1989, I purchased my very first piece of Macintosh software, which
came on an 800k floppy disk in the back of a book called Stupid Mac
Tricks by Dr. bob Levitus. It was a collection of fun applications that
did nothing productive except make your Mac more enjoyable. (I think
that's productive, don't you?)
On that floppy disk was a program called the Talking Moose. For me, that
book and that program defined my appreciation for the Mac. They taught
me that a computer can interject some fun into the middle of work,
adding a new dimension to "the computer" that I didn't know existed. The
Moose is over 20 years old today and is still alive on Mac OS X. A few
years ago when I rediscovered the Moose I also wrote a couple of
AppleScripts that allowed me to use it with Entourage.
