Annoying "Do you want to save changes to template" dialog

I get a "Do you want to save changes to Normal.dot template?" dialog intermittently. Do you have any idea why this occurs and what I can do to prevent it

Hi SK,

You get that message because in someway, the normal.dot template has been
changed. While you can prevent the message from appearing by unchecking the
"Prompt to save Normal template" box under Tools>Options>Save, that cannot
be recommended because then possibly unwanted changes to the template will
be saved without you being aware of it.

The thing to do is try and track down what is causing the change and
eliminate the cause. A poorly constructed Add-in template is often the
cause.

Sorry I have no help for you; to commiserate, I have had

a similar annoyance since adding OfficeXP, I get the
message about saving changes to PALMAPP, that I have no
idea what it is, etc. It is a shame there are so many
pages of questions posed to other customers to solve the
problems of the people who made the programs, isn't it.
I hope someone can find an answer for you. I am just
resolving myself to using the program less, and accepting
that I have to keep saying "no" to the dumb annoyance.

It appears because you have made (or something has made) changes that affect
Normal.dot, and Word is asking whether you want to save them. Such changes
could include a customization of a toolbar or menu, an added AutoText entry
or shortcut key assignment, a macro, a change to a style that you saved to
the template, etc. If you are not aware of having made any such changes, you
can always say no.
