Annoying emails

Hi,

I keep getting around 15-20 emails a day that says things like 'Mail
transaction failed' or 'Here are your bank details' and all have
attachments containing a virus. I believe form reading about it on the
web that it is due to another person having a virus and my email
address or domain name on their computer.

I have Norton scanning all incoming mail and stops the virus before it
attacks, but this takes time. Last night I had 33 such emails, and it
took 5 mins to download rubbish and viruses.

So my question is, is there any way to stop these or do I have to live
with them?

Thankyou for time,

Jason

Look at message rules. Set one to delete them.

Does your ISP have any SPAM-blocking capability? If so, enable it. You may
also consider using MailWasher (http://www.mailwasher.net/) or SpamBayes
(http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/).

Please follow the direction of conversation so that it can be followed.
Jumping to top posting after bottom posting loses the flow of conversation
and the conversation won't be easily followed.

There is a help system in the program for message rules- can you give some
more details of which part of it can't you follow?

I have just had a look at some reviews and prices and it appears that I
can buy a copy of Mailwasher pro for around £19. I will definately
buy this, it sounds exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for your
help guys.

Sorry, Alan, I was a little premature when looking at the rules
section, it looked very complicated upon first inspection. However I
have just spent a little time going through the help section and think
I can set up some rules to help.

But even using these rules I still have to download the message to my
computer first, is that right? But by using something like mailwasher
I can manage my emails before I download them. This seems the best
option to me.

Cheers, Jason

Also correct.

Yes. Also many ISP's allow you to access emails over the internet and have
rules that can be set up at that point, so they can be removed at that
point.

Look to see if you can do it on your mail server first. I can with wanadoo.

Just had a look to see if I can do this through my ISP (demon) and I
can cut out spam and stop DSN mails but thats all. I contacted Demon
help and they suggested I take a look at Mailwasher!

At least it's some kind of recommendation from them. I can set up a max of
100 rules to block mails in my service.
