Annoying formula bar

Dan

I've been using Excel X for quite some time. All of a sudden, without
my making any changes to anything, the formula bar is acting in an
extremely annoying way: instead of sitting flush below the standard
toolbar, it's about a quarter-inch farther down. And spreadsheets that
I load sit directly below the standard toolbar, but *behind* the
formula bar -- unless I move the spreadsheet down. Not a huge deal, but
this has never happened before. I suddenly find myself turning the
formula bar off and then on when I need it, instead of just leaving it
there all the time. Any idea what's going on? Thanks.

It sounds like it's been moved by accident at some stage and Excel is
remembering its location. You should be able to simply drag it back to
where it belongs (you may need to close all documents first), making
sure it's 'jumps' slightly to the left-hand side of the screen and the
toolbar above.

As Harry suggested, your formula toolbar has become undocked, and you
just need to re-dock it. Docking in XLv.X is a little more sensitive
than in other versions - it's easy to undock toolbars without meaning to.

If you want to prevent undocking, see

Helpful Harry,

I saw your note and it sounds like my formula bar got undocked.
Unfortunately, it is now behind the mac menu bar and I can only see it
if I have a several line entry. Since that main menu bar doesn't move,
and I can't create a handle to move the formula bar, I don't know how
to get it from behind there. Any ideas?

Liz
