Annoying Normal warnings

Sometimes, I say sometimes, because it's erratic, when I restart my
computer, I get sign" DO YOU WANT TO REPLACE THE EXISTING NORMAL".

My response to Word, " thanks, but don't ask unless I ask first"

Then Word says to me " CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO AFFECT THE GLOBAL TEMPLATE
OF NORMAL, SAVE OR DON'T SAVE" -- If I don't Save, then I cannot restart
the computer. It's not much of a choice. Particularity weird, since I
NEVER asked Word to "change the global template"

Is there any way to get Word to do what I want instead of doing what it
wants????????????

Thanks!!!!!!!

Yeah, I get that, too -- I could care less what the Normal template is (or
what's it's for) and I don't want to be asked about it, nor do I want an
endless save cycle for my trouble!

Thanks Sam, good know others are in same boat, but can anyone help as to why
we are in this boat, and what can we do to get out of it. Thanks!

In XLv.X, contacts from Entourage are stored as Autotext in the
Normal template. You can't turn that behavior off, but you can
uncheck the Prompt to save Normal template checkbox in
Preferences/Save.

This is one reason that I don't save anything in Normal any more.
All my macros, toolbars, etc. are stored in a global add-in (which
is just a template file stored in the Microsoft Office
X:Office:Startup:Word folder).

I start Word from an applescript which deletes the Normal template
before starting Word, so that a fresh Normal is created every time.
I keep a few basic styles in the add-in, along with a macro to
transfer them to Normal, for the rare occasion that I don't start a
document from another template.

When Word closes, I don't care what's saved in Normal, since I'm
going to trash it anyway, so I turn the prompt off.

If you use your Normal template for storing valuable information or
macros, and keep a good backup copy, you can turn the prompt off
with impunity as well - the first time something seems wonky, just
trash Normal (with Word closed) and replace it with your backup.

JE:
I do have Entourage; are you saying that if I did not have Entourage, I
would not bee seeing these annoying prompts?

Your solution seems a bit complex for now (maybe later I'll check it out),
but if I have a good back up copy, then I shouldn¹t have to bother analyzing
these prompts and just get rid of them anyway I can, correct?

Do you think future version Word will solve this? Thanks!!!!
