Another case of Office Pro 2003 won't reinstall

My attempts to reinstall Office Pro 2003 get past the Product Key and
Product Compliance Check and my selection of what I want to install,
and into the Validating Install stage, and then a couple of other
messages come up too quickly to read, and the installer suddenly drops
out of sight and its all over.

The history is -

I've been using Office Pro 2003 Pro happily since I upgraded to it mid
last year. In the past month I've been having intermittent problems
with Outlook and also Internet Explorer. They sometimes freeze as
soon as they open. This behaviour has been getting worse. IE hasn't
worked for days, and Outlook wouldn't open at all yesterday. Outlook
gave an error message to try again or reinstall it. When I tried to
reinstall it, an error message would say there was a problem with the
Installer.

Yesterday I tried to see what was going on by using WinTasks 5 and
this recommended an update. The update wouldn't install until I got
Support advice to download and install Windows Installer Clean Up,

That fixed the WinTasks Pro 5 of deleting the old version and then
installing the new version. But it seems to have affected the
responses of Outlook and attempts to reinstall Office Pro 2003.

After some reading on the web (using Firefox, as my IE doesn't open up
and work), I bit the bullet and used Windows Installer Clean Up to
clean up the Outlook Pro 2003 installer. It uninstalled Office in a
flash. Attempts to reinstall Office Pro 2003 now seem to get under
way, as mentioned above, until it all fades away.

If I try to run an Office program from the Start menu I get an error
message saying -

This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.

If I go into my file "Explore" program ( I use Directory Opus as I'm
an old Amiga user), the Office files are all there, including the .exe
files for all the Office programs. If I try to run the programs from
the .exe files I get the following responses.

Excel, Powerpoint and Access open with the following message -

Microsoft (name of program) has not been installed for the current
user. Please run setup to install the application.

Outlook does not open. Double clicking on outlook.exe brings up an
error message saying - Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook.
MAP132.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been
caused by installing other messaging software. Please reinstall
Outlook.

Trying to open winword.exe comes up with a window saying that the
document contains macros. What document? When I move past this the
message becomes - The function you are attempting to run contains
macros or content that requires macro langauge support. When this
software was installed, you (or your administrator) chose not to
install support for macros or controls.

Word is different in that in that persists with its error messages and
if I work my way through them, it will eventually allow me to use the
program (which is not officially installed) and open and edit files.

Fingers crossed that someone can help. I'm right in the middle of a
major project wher I need Outlook, Word and Excel.
