another incoming server port that works with aim.com, 110 doesn't

I have setup outlook 2002 just as described by aim.com. Error: Find incoming
mail server (pop3): unable to connect to the incoming mail server (pop3).
Please verify the server name in the incoming mail server field. If that
information is correct (it is), close this dialog, click More Settings and
verify the port and SSL information on the Advanced tab.

The web based email is getting the test emails, but I am not receiving
anything. If I set it up as an imap, it works, but it doesn't start with the
Outlook Today page, its cold and grey and aggrevating.

I didn't think aol supported POP anymore, I thought they *only* supported
IMAP. Where did you find the instructions on how to set it up? I'd like to
see them to see what they are saying to do.

That's because aim.com is an imap format, not a pop3. Change your settings
and it should work. Try incoming 143 and outgoing 587 with imap.aim.com and
smtp.aim.com

Please copy and paste this site...it states that it is in POP3. Yes, I
haven't a problem receiving mail from Outlook to the web based site, but I
can not log in. So that is why I am seeking a incoming server port # that
will work.

I have had the Netscape.net for a long time, its accessed by aim. I have
just setup a gmail account because I can get it to work pop3 in Outlook, its
just I don't want to have to do all the follow ups and forwards and such. I
like the established address that I have and that aol/aim says I can setup in
Outlook 2002 in POP3 format.

Thanks for the reply,
Philip

It didn't "color" in my reply, so I went with the thought it didn't link...

Well, sure enough, that site says they support pop3. So, contact AOL's
helpdesk and find out why the servers they are telling you to use don't
answer because they'll be far more likely to know that we will.

But, don't be surprised if they say that help page is out of date and they
don't support pop anymore. http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/
mentions that AOL does not have a pop3 server and
http://postmaster.info.aol.com/imap/outlook02.html doesn't even talk about
pop anymore.

I already tried that puppy, for a person to help you, you have to be an AOL
subscriber...phewy on that

Well, most evidence shows that they don't support pop3, just imap, so, I'd
go with that.

Gary, that was Outlook Express, I am using Outlook 2002 and in the link I
have posted its POP3.....not strange.

Philip, I know you can find documents that say that AOL still does POP, but,
that said, it isn't an outlook problem. If you aren't able to get help from
AOL themselves, maybe you'd want to check a forum or newsgroup dedicate to
AOL as opposed to Outlook.

Whether one uses Outlook Express or Outlook 2002 doesn't really matter.
It doesn't change the protocols offered by the ISP.
