Another merging to email query (Word 2000 under Vista)

Hello all,
Until recently I'd been using a battered old PC with Win98SE, Word 2000 and
OE6 to do an email merge - did the job well.

Recently changed to Vista, but still using Word 2000 and now using Windows
Mail as my email client (Outlook 2000 also installed but not used). The
option to merge to email is no longer available. I've read about the possible
missing lines from win.ini but Vista does not have a win.ini. So I checked
the registry for what was in the win.ini and all seems fine.

My only thought is that Word 2000 under Vista does not recognise Windows
Mail as being MAPI compliant, although if I choose to email an individual
document from Word 2000 it brings up the To, Subject, Message header and
sends the email.

I'm at a loss to know what to try next other than obtain and install a later
version of Office or change my mail client.

Any ideas folks? Thanks for any guidance received.

If you've already inserted the registry stuff correctly for Vista my only
thought is "if it's Vista 64 you have to use a different registry key", i.e.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows Messaging
Subsystem

Thanks for the reply Peter.
I'm afraid it's just a standard Vista Premium 32-bit install.

Hi Nick,

I had forgotten: Word 2000 probably does check win.ini, not the registry.

If you have not done so already I suggest you create a win.ini in your Vista
c:\windows folder, with the relevant entries (as documented elsewhere) and
see what happens - make sure you restart Word 2000.

If that doesn't work I'll try to replicate the scenario here.

Thanks Peter.

I will not have access to the machine until tomorrow but will try as you
suggest.
If it doesn't work then don't worry, I'll just change my version of Office
or the email client until it works. Don't want to put you to any extra
trouble but thanks for the offer.

I'll let you know how I get on anyway.

Peter,
Was surpirsed to find a win.ini already in the Windows directory.
Added required lines to it and everything is working!
Thanks for your time.

All the best,
Nick

I just want to know why is EVERYTHING such a hassle with Vista? From not
being able to install or uninstall to now this. By the time I get back on
track, Window 7 will be up and running and I'll be left holding the bag.

In your case, what is the problem? What version of Word are you using?
What mail program are you using?
