Another Problem

All Pub versions

Does not print what you see on screen.

I have a picture I placed to the edge of the page ..... the made a rectangle
and faded the inside from white to clear and placed it over the picture
which results in a nice fade of the picture to the edge of the paper ...
well at least it sure does on screen.

Problem is it just doesn't print whats on screen, instead it cuts off the
picture where the rectangle was placed over the picture.

Edge of the page? Is it possible that
your printer does not print to the edge?

Maybe the following article would be
worth a look:

"How to find the maximum print area of your printer"

No ... that is not the problem ... it's a simple business card one up so
it's not the printer.

It acts as if the rectangle I placed over the picture wich is gradient
filled from white to clear just blocks out the picture ... but it shows the
desired fade out affect on screen. Pub 2007 and tried it in 2002 with the
same problem.

=============================
Publisher has issues with gradients.

Something to try.

Try saving the gradient as a .png picture.
(right click/save as picture)

Then reimport the .png and use it instead.
(insert/picture/from file)

OK ... tried that ... when I saved the rectangles to a png and imported and
placed over the picture to create the edge fade out I noticed the png file
had shrunk in size. So I stretched it to fit.

Did not solve the problem though ... still the same problem. Does not print
what you see on screen.

Rectangles (plural?) I thought you said it
was a gradient?

If the .png placed over your picture does not
print correctly you may have a printer issue.

Are you running the most recent driver from
the support website of your printer mfg?

Export the publication as a PDF and print that.

I can send you the file if you wish .....

Rectangles along all 4 sides of the business card. 4 of them. The
rectangles are filled with a gradient from white to clear to give the look
of the picture having a nice fade out on the edge.

Not a printer issue.

OK...I get it now.

Sounds like you could prepare this
picture in an advanced image editing
program and just soften the edges.

If you would like to upload the file to
YouSendIt I'll have a look.

"YouSendIt"
http://www.yousendit.com/

All you have to do is enter an e-mail
address in the "To:" (Recipient) field
and click the "Browse" button to select
the file you wish to upload. Then click
the "Send It" button.

The next screen that appears will give
you the download link. Just copy/paste
it into your newsgroup reply.

I downloaded your project and I must be missing
something...I don't see four rectangles I only see one.
And there is a copy in the scratch area that can be
deleted.

Anyway...try grouping all the components (just drag a
box around the whole project and click the lock). If this
will not print...try saving the grouped project as a picture
and reinsert it on a 3.5x2 blank and try to print that.

If the graident is removed and all the components are
grouped and saved as a picture...the edges can be
softened in an editing program. Here's a test sample:

https://www.yousendit.com/download/U0d6a3NmYWIzS3BFQlE9PQ
Just add this picture to a blank 3.5x2.

If all these fail...yes...you do have a printer problem.
