Another Question About Fonts

Margaret

Dear Group:

I went through the message threads and couldn't quite come up with an answer
to my question - apologies if this has been addressed.

I recently installed MS Office Pro 2007 (full). I have "legacy" Office
software - 97, 2002, 2003 - that I think contain a few fonts that may not be
installed with this 2007 version.

I did a search on each CD, looking for applicable file extensions, or even
folders containing the word "font". My results were minimal.

So, my question is, how do I copy those fonts off the legacy cds to install
on this computer? I did read read through the threads, and saw suggestions
about going through the Add/Remove Programs dialog in the Control Panel,
choosing Office 2007, and clicking "change", and I'm uncertain that will
apply in this instance.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

What "applicable file extensions" did you look for?
If you haven't tried .TTF, then try that.
e.g. In my Office 2000 Premium the .ttf fonts are held in the folder
\Photdrw\Fonts in one of the CDs.

In Office 2003, they are in a .cab file, so search in all .cab files
for the text ".ttf"

Just install them via Control Panel-Fonts.

Hi Margaret,

You didn't mention the fonts you think may be missing. If the legacy programs were installed when you upgraded to Office 2007
generally, but not always, the fonts would have been left in place.

To add a bit to to Alan's reply on fonts from older versions, the fonts included can vary based on which Office edition you had. MS
Office Publisher, if included in your in Office XP(2002) and 2003 products had many of the fonts as it does in Office 2007. In
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel choose the MS Office 2007 choice to see if you've installed the optional additional
font sets.

Office 2000 Premium Edition (4 CDs) had additional fonts included with Photodraw. If you had the original Office 97 flavor (not
Office 97 SR1) it would have included Publisher 97 trial edition in the \ValuPack\ folder

You may want to look up your version of Office here as well for font lists.

Dear Bob and Alan:

Thanks for your responses. I had done a complete "wipe" of my harddrive
(reinstalled Windows from scratch, so to speak), so everything was gone.

I did find what I was looking for, after you suggested to search the .cab
files.

Sincerely,

M
