Another 'Red X ' issue

Word for the Mac. I'm running Word X on a Powerbook G4
(after updating to Office X 10.1.5). I open a 220 kb file
and some of the graphics have the big 'Red X' instead of
the correct graphic. When I take this same file and open
it on an older computer running OS 9.2 and Word 98 the
graphics are fine. This has happened many times before.
Does anybody know how to get Word X running under OS X
(10.2.8) to display and print these graphics?

I should add that this only happens with files originating
from Word running on a PC.

That darn RED X! I do not use Mac, however maybe my solution will help.
Once I insert the graphic, I format it to "in line with text" under the FORMAT PICTURE--LAYOUT window.
This works for me.
