I hope I can make this clear enough. I've been a Mac user and a Word user
for years and years, buying upgrades all along since the very early days.
A few years back I dropped one of our G3's and bought a G4 tower. I bought
an OfficeX upgrade for the old Word program I'd been dragging along. My
wife continued to run the old Word version on her G3. I then bought a
PowerBook G4 (OS 10.3.7) and loaded Office onto that too. I have since
upgraded to Office 2004 on both my G4 and my PowerBook. My wife continued
to use the old G3 with the old version of Word.
Now, I'm moving into my new G5, (OS 10.3.8) and she is going to take over my
old G4 tower and start using OSX. I'm going to need my copy of Office in
the G5, and she'll need at least Word on my old G4. I'll continue to want
to run my copy of Office on my G4 laptop.
So here's the question. Is there a way to increase the license for one more
user on the same Office program I now have on my two computers? Instead,
could I buy a second upgrade her old Word 98 or my newer OfficeX or do I
have to buy her her own copy Office or Word? Economy is the key here.

If you're asking about what's legal, you can only run one desktop and one
laptop computer from the same license. And you can only upgrade a particular
license once, i.e. on one desktop computer. You have to buy a new copy of
Office 2004 for the second desktop. If anyone in your residence (and I mean
anyone) has anything whatsoever to do with studying or teaching, you could
instead get the Teachers and Students edition for a third of the price, and
have three separate licenses for three pairs of desktop and laptop. If
you're considering doing something illegal, don't ask here for approval. If
the illegally upgraded computers are ever on the same network, Office will
detect the extra installation and block launching.
