any access database hangs??

Opening any local database in access (even a sample northwind database) cause
acccess to hang. Only thing left to do is to close it using task manager.
My operating system is windows xp sp2 on toshiba tecra s1 notebook.
Things i've tried so far:
a) reinstalling office (office 2003 professional edition)
b) installing another version of office (my old office xp)
c) updating bios on my notebook
d) have searched on internet for the sortlike problem

Other programs in office (excel, outlook, word) work just fine.
Anyone knows?

There was a thread in December/January where Georg Hickel reported a similar
fault on the Tecra S1.

His Toshiba contact was able to repro the fault, and told him to uninstall
the Mobile Extensions Software. Apparently that fixed the problem.

I just have uninstalled Mobile Extensions Software from Toshiba and that
solved my problem.
