Any alternative to dragging for enlarging picture?

For some reason I cannot use dragging to enlarge a picture. I wonder if
there is something I can do to change this, or is there an alternative way to
enlarge a picture? Thanks. Millie

My guess is that you formatted the picture as "behind text", and the
problem is not that you cannot resize the picture, but that you cannot
select the picture in order to resize it. So, if you have Word 2003 or
earlier...

Display the Drawing toolbar (click on View | Toolbars | Drawing). On
the Drawing toolbar, click on the Select Objects tool (that's the big
white arrow near the left end of the Drawing toolbar). Then click on
the picture to select it, and drag one of the sizing handles to resize
the picture. When you've finished resizing the picture, remember to
click on the Select Objects tool again to turn it off, or else you won't
be able to select text normally with the mouse.

No, I haven't been doing text behind, simply putting a picture on an empty
page, and I cannot 'grip' one of the handles to resize - that is the whole
problem. That's why I'm asking about an alternative. I've been into the
Help menu and looked at all the toolbars, but nothing helps. I have Windows
XP. Thanks anyway. Millie

So you can see the sizing handles but cannot drag one? What version of
Word?

Assuming Word 2003 or earlier, if the Select Objects tool on the Drawing
toolbar is activated, click on it to turn it off, and then try dragging
a sizing handle again.

Otherwise, right-click once on the picture to select it. In Word 2003
or earlier left-click on Format Picture | Size tab, and change the
dimensions there. In Word 2007, left-click on Size, and change the
dimensions there.
