I am experiencing strange results from sorting a database containing date
references.
The date entries have identical formats but do not sort in the correct
order. If I introduce a formula examining the relevant cells
"=datevalue(NNN)" the returns are mixed. Some entries produce a date/time
number and some return "VALUE".
If I clear the contents of the cells, format to "text" and then re-enter the
values, somteimes this solves the problem. If I copy a "good" cell to a
"bad" that cures the "bad" cells problem. If I then overtype, the problem
returns.
I am baffled. Can anyone help please?
The platform is Mac and the problems occur on Excel 5 and the same in Office
98.
