Some Background...
Power was disrupted during an update of Win 2k SP2 to Win 2kSP4 which
caused the system to get stuck in a never ending reboot cycle. I
didn't have an emergency repair disk so I used the Windows 2000 Cd on
bootup and performed a repair of the system using "Manual" repair
choosing all options to fix. After it did its thing I was able to
boot and successfully install SP4 and install all updates.
The problem is that Excel will now not work for limited users. Users
with admin rights can use Excel just fine, but any limited users on
the system get the standard toolbar and then nothing but a gray
background below that. Opening files also just shows the gray
background with no text.
I have tried a lot of things. Excel with the switches to unregister
the server, to register the server, safe mode, and Detect and Repair
to no avail. I uninstalled Office 2000, deleted the Office key from
the registry and ran Eraser 2000 before reinstalling, yet to no avail.
This is the second time this has happened. The first time I tried
updating to Office 2k3, but even that wouldn't work right for limited
users. Last time I had to wipe and start the system from scratch to
get it to work and it looks like I may have to do that now too!
The version installed is Office 2000 Premium SR1.
Any ideas or anyone heard of this?
