Any Ideas about Securing Database

B

Bob Vance

I have a Microsoft Access 2007 Database Application, I know it is really
Impossible to Secure/Protect it from being copied but I would like to try
and have some features that may make it so difficult to get around being
able for someone else to copied it for a friend to use. I have I table that
may help do this its the your "Company Information" Some how this may be
able to be locked up and cant be changed unless you have a password or
something like that, Any Ideas as I would like to distribute it to some
people they can use it in RunTime as well !

I assume you distribute a accDE so users can not change your code....

A really great suggestion is to then have some type of "file" that has
company info in it. You can disguise this as a binary file, but inside it
can be text (and, some type of "key" that is the result of the letters of
the company name being added up. That way, if they open up this small file
with word, or a editor and change the company name, the application will not
function...

Tony has some great ideas based on this idea here:

SQL Server supports real permissions.

Move to Access Data Projects if you only want certain users to edit
certain data

Please ignore Aaron's response as he clearly didn't read your posting
and understand your question.

they only want certain people to edit certain data.

HOW can Access 2007 do this, except with ADP?

honestly Tony

HOW is it possible to secure data using 2007.. so that someone can't
run off with a copy of it? with SQL Server, they can't just COPY THE
MDF / LDF.. or let me guess.. you don't even KNOW what a MDF / LDF is
huh?

please Tony

Please explain how my ADP solution does _NOT_ meet his needs?

because it looks to me -- like you just follow me around and stalk me.

a) I was right
b) Tony cannot solve a simple bug about MS Access
c) Tony blames the messenger for the message

good stuff Tony, your Mafia tactics no longer work
