Any issues with not having a Default Web Site?

In the installation instructions, after entering analysis services connection
information is the 'Select a Web Site' step. My customer doesn't have a
Default Web Site - they want to create a named one for Project Server. Looks
from the manual as if it should be OK. I went ahead and did the install but
now I'm having problems (see below). Are there any issues with installing to
a site that's not the default web site?

So far we've had a succession of problems - it's been a bit like peeling an
onion - WSS Config probs, SQL probs, IIS Probs and now Project Server appears
to be installed and working but I can't get PWA to work properly. It's
hanging on screens like the Manage Categories or Manage Groups, with 'Error
on page' in the bottom left. When I went hunting, the strongest suggestion
as a resolution was to check MSADC and repair MDAC if necessary. In their
system, one of the files that should have been there in MSADC was missing, to
I've left them the instructions for fixing MDAC.

I'll see tomorrow if that is the answer.

Any other thoughts?

Make sure that the MDAC directory is in the same virtual server you've
installed Project Server to. This should clear up some of the issues you're
seeing.

Thanks, Gary.

MSADC was in the same virtual server but we had to define it as an excluded
path in Sharepoint Central Administration. Another possibility for other
people to check.

We had already manually made projectserver an excluded path because we
weren't getting to the site at all initially. I'm not sure why the
installation process didn't do these - I need to do some testing when I get
time to see if I can reproduce the situation.

The order of the installation determines how much the installation software
does for you. If you install WSS first, and install it to the default
website along with Project Server, the managed path exclusions are written
for you. Personally, I like to put WSS for Project Server on its own virtual
server, but that's strictly a personal preference.

Thanks, Gary.
That makes sense.
