Any way to "arrange all" vertically?

B

Bill Weylock

In 2004 some kind soul had given me a macro to make the ³Arrange All²
command do something actually helpful and give me two side-by-side document
windows. It¹s the equivalent of the ³arrange vertically² option that Excel
(I hope still!) gives you.

Am I disgustedly correct in assuming that 2008 has generously made that
impossible by eliminating Vbasic?

Or is there possibly another way to make it happen?

Thanks!

Best,

Bill

It's not "impossible".

We're just waiting for a volunteer to code it up in AppleScript.

Thank you so much for offering... :)

If I had a clue about AppleScript, I really would. I was thinking maybe I
could do something in QuicKeys, but seems far-fetched.

While I¹m suffering, is this the only place to watch for salvation? I use
that a lot, and it is simply demented the way they have it implemented. I
can¹t imagine who would prefer it ....

Hi Bill:

"NO" :) Google is your friend... Someone will run it up soon, it's
pissing everyone off :)

See if you can find an Automator action for it?

Nobody "prefers" it this way :) It's just something ac BU didn't get
around to. In Windows, the operating system does it automatically, so I
guess they forgot they needed to code it separately in Mac OS X.

Cheers

John -

Thanks for that. Never once thought of using google for this. Of course!

I also work in Office 2007. As much as I miss being totally Mac, I have to
say that it¹s a lot smarter than the Mac version. As you say, it has ³view
side by side² right on the toolbar. Of course learning where things are on
the toolbars and menus is sort of like learning a complicated foreign
language ...

They have brought the magic of the All Command list to the foreground for
all to enjoy. :)

Hi Bill:

Oh, thank you!! I have written THAT one down. I just may "mention" it to
the application designers, at an opportune moment :)

Yes, the Windows version of Word is far, far, more powerful than the Mac
version, and I, for one, am not a happy puppy as a result.

Yes, I understand all the reasons that it happened that way. I know that
they simply ran out of people, time, and money, and this is as good as they
could do for this version.

But I am still not happy :) I still believe they should have waited
another year and bought us the whole thing, the way they originally planned
it before Steve Jobs suddenly switched to Intel processors!

Cheers

Please do use it! :)

I actually thought of it because I had just been in the Commands list
putting together a custom toolbar to replace the one I lost in the
conversion from 2004. I have a question about that, but will use a new
heading.

I notice they also removed the really neat ability to Replace strings in
³All Open Documents². That was the single advantage 2004 had over the
Windows Word. Of course being able simply to type accents is another unsung
advantage....

Bill, not sure what you mean? as far as I know you can type the most
common accents like é, ô, ì, ü, easily in both Win and Mac Word?

Well, I don¹t know how to do it in Win Word, then. I just assumed it was
missing.

How do I do it in Windows?? (not too far off topic, eh?)
