Any way to disable Reviewing Pane in Word 2007??

B

Bill Weylock

When I¹m reviewing a document, the reviewing pane opens and stays open.
Apparently it opens because someone¹s comment won¹t fit into a balloon
(which is the view I prefer). But why does the blasted thing stay open after
it¹s needed? I HATE IT.

It ruins my document view, making text two small to be comfortable on my
notebook, and it adds nothing I want. Why can¹t it open only when I ask for
it??

Is there any way to disable it?

Is there any way to close it with a key stroke?

Am I doomed to have to stop my review (whether or not I give a rat¹s tail
about the long comment or deletion), go to the mouse, click on the little
bitty x to close the window, go back to review, and then have to do it again
when I get to the next deletion?

Why would people think it¹s a good idea to change the display of a document
radically with no request from user and then leave it that way?

OK. Now I¹ve vented. Is there any help for this, or is someone¹s cute idea
going to stay between me and my work?

Thanks for any help or comfort you can offer.

Best,

- Bill

Not sure I understand "...why does the blasted thing stay open
after it’s needed". How does Word know that you no longer need it?
You have to tell it.

If you don't want to see the Review pane, go to the Review tab and
choose "Final" from the "Display for Review" drop-down.

Sorry to have been colorful instead of clear. I need to review. I want to
see all balloons and insertions. I do NOT want to see the reviewing pane.

I would be happy never to see it. The balloons are fine. If I need to check
content that overflows the allowed size of the balloons, then the reviewing
pane could come in handy, but that rarely happens. What does happen is that
the reviewing pane opens unasked and stays open.

I want to disable it, or at least have a way to close it immediately so I
don¹t have to stop what I¹m doing and go over there with the mouse.

Ahhh...now I understand. I use the review feature frequently and I'm
using Word 2007. I have not had the problem you describe. The review
pane does not appear automatically for me and I can't find where it's
controlled (I mean the default action). Perhaps I have never exceeded
the allowed comment size. I have tried turning it on and then saving the
file thinking that when I open it again the review pane will
appear...but it didn't. I have found that once I close it, it stays
closed during my review session. So I'm not sure why yours keeps coming
back. I would be annoyed too if that happened to me. Sorry I cannot
help...but I do sympathize.

Any way to disable Reviewing Pane in Word 2007??You can use Alt + Shift + C to close the Reviewing Pane.

As for why it can't open only when you ask for it, well...in a way you have asked for it. ;-) As you noted, it will automatically open if a comment or revision is too long to view in the bubble if you are navigating the revisions, such as using the Next Change or Previous Change command. At least it doesn't automatically open on me unless I'm using these or equivalent commands or unless I click the ellipsis (...) at the bottom of a bubble. If I'm just scrolling through the document it stays turned off. How are you reviewing the revisions? Reading the document or navigating the revisions?

Thanks. The close shortcut takes some of the curse away.

I¹m viewing the documents with all proofing and comments showing and
approving or rejecting changes. It¹s clear to me why it opens. I just so
wish it would open only when I clicked in the three dots showing further
text in a comment balloon. It assumes I want to see all the text even when
the text is in a comment inserted three versions back. Grrrrrrrrr....... :)

To be extra clear, it opens as I scroll through the document whether or not
I click in a comment window that has extra text. Same for deleted text ...
That last one I can understand actually.

Truly, having the key equivalent is just fine. I¹m a touch typist, and
having to leave the keys to go to a mouse annoys me a lot and slows me down
dreadfully.

Thanks!
