Any way to link text to figure #

When putting in a figure with a caption ie. "figure 1 - test pattern" and
then referencing that figure in the text such as "as shown in figure 1" is
there any way to link the text so that if a new figure is inserted later and
the figures are renumbered the text is updated too?

Is this a stupid question? Sorry!

Use Insert -> Cross Reference to put the 'Figure 1' reference in your text,
this will create a field code to produce the Figure 1 text. If you add more
figures and want to update all your captions and cross-references, higlight
the whole document with CTRL + A then press F9 to update all the fields in
the document.
