Any way to prevent conversion?

i have several Access 97 database that are about to be
used under Windows XP Pro with office XP

I dont want the datbases to be converted as they need to
be used under NT which has only 97 installed.

Is there any way to prevent the option to convert
appearing on screen? when my 97 databases are opened in
office xp?

TIA

Split your database into a frontend and backend. There is a database
splitter tool that will do this for you very easily. Then create a converted
copy of the Frontend only. Give the XP frontend to the users who have
machines with XP on them and the 97 frontend to those users with NT on them.

This was teh initial thing that i thought of.

This would work fine, but i would like to supress the
message as was posted after this.

given that supressing involves registry modification i may
just use the extra front end.

Purely as the PC's are built from Standard images and it
would cause extra work to continually modify registry keys

thanks for your help

Go to the Security menu, select the default (admin) user,
remove permission for open exclusive. (You have to scroll
UP from 'tables' to see the permissions for the 'database'
object).

Now the default user will always open in shared mode,
and will never be able to convert the database. If you
wish later to convert the database, go back to security
again and give back open exclusive permission
