any way to validate the product key B4 installing office 2003?

hi, odd question, but i have a copy of office 2003 that's a couple of years
old; i got it at the campus store in redmond but never installed it. is
there any way to validate that the product key still works without actually
installing the software on a pc? a friend on the other side of the country
wants the disc, but i don't want to go to the hassle of shipping, etc., if it
turns out that at some point i inadvertently installed it somewhere and
forgot it (i've moved mostly to mac now, so i use office for mac, not office
2003). i'm not trying to do anything hinky here, i just would like to verify
that the product key is still unused; i have the physical, holographic disc,
the COA, and the product key, which i'd like someone to use instead of just
sitting in my basement. thanks in advance.

No, Microsoft does not have a database of keys and how many times they have been used. It is on a per machine basis. If your friend has some issues trying to activate, have him/her use the telephone method.
