Any WORD doc freezing on "edit"

Using WORD from OFFICE X, and have been doing so successfully for
months. All of a sudden this morning, I have BIG PROBLEMS.
I can open the app just fine. I can open a new or existing file. BUT
(<big but)...as soon as I try to edit a doc in ANY way, the app
freezes up. I'm not seeing the spinning beach ball, the HD isn't
cycling incessantly. The app is just DEAD. It might as well be a
screen grab. I can't even force quit out of it from the dock...I have
to C+O+esc to force quit.
The really wierd thing is: I can move the cursor around the doc, but
as soon as I try to type a letter, or backspace--any doc manipulation
at all--it freezes (even the cursor freezes).
I have never had a problem before. I've got plenty of RAM, etc.
(Powerbook G4...512 RAM at 4200).
I've re-started the MAC. I've shut it down and re-started it. I
trashed the preferences. I even re-loaded the app from the
CD...nothing.
Not to get to technical, but...yikes!

Hi Kel:

Reloading the app has no effect at all unless you first use the Remove
Office program from the CD to get the old one out. Because the files that
get damaged are the ones that the user creates, so the install routine
preserves them when you reload, preserving the problem.

You likely have a corrupt normal template. Re-name it and Word should be
fine. You can then use Organizer to copy back any customisations you want
(look it up in the Help).

Note: I cannot stress this enough... The sequence in which you do things
is important, as is completing each of the steps exactly. If we tell you to
do something, then tell you to do it again, you need to do it both times or
the cure won't work

OK, I have a very similar problem that just happened today opening a doc and
I'm using Word from MS Office 2001. Never a problem before but suddenly on
my top menu File works but I can't get any other menu to drop down except
fonts. When I print - MSWord dies with error type 3 or something. If I even
quit same thing, Word dies. So I ran a de-install and removed MS Office 2001
and then reinstalled from CD MS Office 2001 and opened a normal MS file that
I've printed before with no problems and same thing - upper menu only File
and Font with nothing else dropping down. Same error when I quit. How?? I
just installed it and it has the same problems as the one I trashed and
emptied out???

So, what is this new bug that seems to have hit both X and I'm running
MSOffice 2001 on OS 9.2???
