Hello Michael,

The section "Office Web solutions with ASP.NET" of the KB article INFO:
Develop Microsoft Office solutions with Visual Studio .NET
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311452 introduces all the issues and KBs
related to office automation in ASP.NET applications. I find a KB article
that seems to be the one you referred to:
257757 INFO: Considerations for server-side automation of Office
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257757/

It talks about all the problems using automation of Office server-side.
Please check if it fits your request.

If you need further assistance, feel free to let me know. I will be more
than happy to be of assistance.
Have a great day!

Regards,

where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
