anyone else having trouble accessing gmail via outlook 2003?

After seven months accessing Gmail successfully with Google's suggested POP
configs, for the last three days I've been unable to send/receive email (or
access my Gmail account) through Outlook 2003. I can still access my Gmail
account via the web, so I think this must be an Outlook problem. On what may
be a related note, for the last three days, my Outlook program has been
refusing to open unless I reboot the computer. My OS is Windows XP, Outlook
2003 (all updates and service packs current). I've checked and rechecked, and
my SSL/port settings are in line with those recommended by Gmail, and POP is
enabled in my account. Any further advice would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

I too have access problems to Hotmail from Outlook. "Connection to server
could not be established." Same set up, XP ver 2 home edition. This has
been going on for a week!

Have you checked with google mail support FAQs? It may be a problem with
which they are familiar.

I have been in touch with Gmail's support staff, and have checked in with
their discussion groups to no avail. I'm beginning to wonder if this is a
Microsoft/XP/Norton Antivirus system problem. I just renewed my Symantec
subscription after a brief lapse and got a bunch of updates. That was at the
same time that my Outlook (and now other Office suite programs) started
acting up (refusing to Exit, refusing to Open, generally not responding,
etc). I wonder if one of Norton's updates was hinky?...
