Anyone know how to Search/Replace with OneNote?

Find (Control + F) is supported, but not replacement. You have several
choices on the Find, including Search In criteria.

Thanks, I know about the Find capabilities.

Can you suggest why this (important function) is lacking? Or, if it is going
to be added any time in a future release?

Thanks,

Russ

I can't answer for Microsoft, Russ. And they never talk about future plans,
but do very much take into account suggestions from users. That's why the
huge improvement between the original OneNote and the SP1 version.

It's a popular feature request. It was not considered essential for the
early versions, as I understand it, because OneNote was envisioned as an
idea and information gathering place and the data would most likely be put
into another app (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) to be finalized, where
Search/Replace could be done. At least that's how I understand the
explanation.

Of course, now that they have actual product in the streets I think they're
realizing increasingly that search/replace would be useful and I would not
be surprised to see it make an appearance in a future version.

That's the explanation I'd heard as well, and I'll go a step further to
clarify:

A lot of the initial (pre-SP1) features were intended to keep the
paper/notebook metaphor intact. You don't go back to your paper notes at the
end of a class and find/replace do you? You don't go back to paper minutes
from a meeting and change things, do you? You might rewrite those notes to
consolidate them in your head, or you might clean up minutes and republish
them in a neater format.

Ben is right that a lot of people are using the product in a lot of neat
ways that maybe the MS engineers didn't envision, but they achieved the
usefulness of the paper metaphor spot on! OneNote is not intended to be used
to create finished, polished documents. That is what Word, PowerPoint,
Publisher, etc. are for.
