ANYONE WANT TO TAKE A CRACK AT THIS ANOMALY - OFFICE XP UPDATES SP1 AND SP2

MS Office Upgrade Center shows that I need to download and install SP2, even
though I have done so!

Here is the story so far: I successfully downloaded Office XP SR1 and SR2
TODAY, Sat Aug 23 2003, from the MS Office Updates site: installation was
successful.I then checked the programs (Access, Word, Excel, Outlook and
PowerPoint) and each showed that it was Version SR2. Nice job, yes? Well,
then I installed Publisher 2002 (which I've had for some time but had not
previously installed). I revisited the Update site and scanned again to
determine if all was well. I was puzzled when a list of needed updates was
shown: it listed SP1 and SP2! I figured the previous downloaded upgrades
hadn't affected PowerPoint as it wasn't installed when I first did the
upgrades. I figured I would simply redownloade SR1 and 2, but first I
figured I would install my FrontPage (which I've also had for some time).
After installing FrontPage, but prior to updating again for SR1 and SR2, I
checked the version of each program: all showed SR2 except PowerPoint and
FrontPage.

So, I reupgraded for SR1; all went and installation was successful. Then I
reupgraded for SR2, but it failed. Although I couldn't figure out where it
failed (in download process or install process, as I had stepped away from
the computer) nor could I figure out what to do next, ALL programs now show
version SR2, including PowerPoint and FrontPage!

Comments anyone? Seems as if there is something to learn here.

PS All the other required updates (Outlook, Word, Excel) have successfully
been installed.

Do you mean "Publisher" and FrontPage are not updated?

Hi, Group, sorry too take so long to reply to Milly's post but I was out of
town.

Milly, I meant that although Publisher and FrontPage each showed that I was
at version SP 2, the update web site continued to advise that I needed to
download SP 2.

Some of the listing in Help=>About comes from
a shared DLL file in Office so that what you see
may not be correct if you've installed standalone
Office family products (i.e. separate listings in
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel).

In that case you may need to install the updates
for those apps separately.

You may also want to make sure you can complete an
Office Detect & Repair run from one of the Office apps.
If not, then the update and the installation of Office
may be corrupted.

Well, I think I've obtained resolution folks. I did my standard action,
figured Microsoft simply couldn't keep track of itself and so I just waited
an hour or so, and then redownloaded SP2. All went well with download and
install, update site no longer shows my needing to download SP2 and all
programs show I'm at SP2 (still!)

Thanks for taking the time to assist my question.
