Apostrophe becomes odd characters

P

Just recently when I sent out an email, and it only happens with some
recipients, almost every apostrophe I type converts into the following
odd symbols: "Boy, itï¿âˆs nice outside today." When I usea lot of
apostrophes, it obviously becomes very difficult to read. I've found
that an occasional apostrophe DOES get through normally. Does anyone
have any idea why this is suddenly happening, sometimes to people I've
been sending email to for years? How can I correct it? Am I suddenly
missing a system font or something? Thanks in advance for your help!

Try turning off smart quotes. Go to Tools > AutoCorrect. Click the
"AutoFormat" tab. Under "Replace as you type", uncheck "Straight quotes
with smart quotes", and click OK.
