appactivate run time error in excel under xp.

all my appactivate commands in vba do not work now that xp
gives every workbook within the application a link even
though the last active workbook within the application has
not changed.

is there anyway to stop xp from doing this while a macro
module is running. or a command with in the module to
disable this xp function. tried going back to classic too!

all my modules now cause run time errors if the scope has
moved away from excel and i am attempting to give the
active scope back to microsoft excel. for some strange
reason It now needs the workbook name that was active not
the application name but this only applies if there is
more than one workbook open within excel. so it a bloddy
nuisance!

as now it seems i will have to search all my
appactivate "microsoft excel" statements and change the
name call to what ever the workbooks window name is. i
thought xp was supposed to be more user freindly and
adaptable?
