Appends to Oracle tables via ODBC Hang

I'm running Access 97 and connecting to an Oracle 9
database. I've defined an Oracle table and am attempting
to run an Access append query to insert rows however the
query hangs. Small row inserts work. A coleague
suggested this was a known bug. Is there a workaround?
