OneNote has been recommended as a solution for an application that I
need. The best way I know how to explain it is by example. Have you ever
called a credit card company with a complaint and then had to call back
again (normal?) Once you give them your credit card number, they have a
sting of manually entered notes, among other things. A simplified
application would look like this on a screen:
============================
Customer Information:
Card Number: 4444-4444-4444-4444
Customer Notes:
01-01-2008 Customer called to complain about our high interest rates.
01-02-2008 Customer called again to say that he is going to cancel his
account unless we lower his interest rate. Told customer to
take a hike.
01-03-2008 Customer called to cancel his account.
============================
While my application is not for a credit card company, if I could
understand how OneNote would work in the above situation, I could adapt
it to my application. Here are the requirements:
1. The operator needs to be able to quickly access all data connected
with the account (4444-4444-4444-4444).
2. "Customer Information", "Card Number", and "Customer Notes" have a
FIXED position on the screen. (When I play with OneNote, the note is
placed where I click the mouse. Hopefully there is a way to fix or
anchor the text entry boxes so the screen is laid out like a web page or
a database.)
3. The date field and the comments fields are separate but linked so
that they clearly correspond with each other. In the example above, if
the 01-02-2008 entry were a line longer, the 01-03-2008 and "Customer
called to cancel" lines would automatically be moved down the page by a
line.
The real lack of understanding that I have with OneNote is how to fix
the positions and sizes of the text entry boxes or fields. Hopefully
there is a ready way to do so. Once I understand that part, I can
complete an evaluation to determine whether OneNote is what I need.
Thanks for the input and assistance!
