Application hang event ID 1001 and 1002

Within the last week I have noticed that when I try
to "save as" in Word 2002, and I click on the Look In box
to expand the selection, the application freezes for 20
seconds to several minutes. If I click again, the title
bar displays Not Responding. If I then wait, eventually
the list appears and I can proceed.

This same behavior happens for every Office product
whenever I try to save as or just explore to a file, such
as when attaching a file to an email.

The Event Viewer/Application log is full of event ids for
1001 and 1002 with a source of "Application Hang".

I tried installing Office 2002 on another computer that
has never had Office installed and the same behavior is
present.

I am running on a small, server based network. My PCs run
XP SP2 and my server runs Server 2003.

Does anyone know what is causing this? I have checked for
viruses. None are found.

What are your system resources usage? If the system slows
for awhile, but then responds, it could just be system
resources. Check for spyware to see if it is eating up
your resources. Otherwise, terminate all unnecessary
processes and see if problem continues.

System resources are fine. I have run Spybot. I have run
Mcafee virus scan - no viruses found. I am running a P4
2.4 with 512mb ram.

If it happens when you are access your drive, could it be
a fragmented file problem?

I just discovered that I had two mapped drives that were
no longer connected to anything. I unmapped them but they
still displayed in Windows Explorer. So I rebooted and
now my Word save-as works!!
