Applications/MS Office does not release memory on closing

FreeRan XP Pro 1.30 says I have 86-110 mb of free ram.
When I open applications/office 2000 I have about 32 mb or
ram. When I close the applications I have about 40 mb of
ram. Sometimes my application hang up.
I also get not enough memory or disk space error in Work
2k.
plse advise.

Too little RAM for XP and Office. 256 is the practical minimum, 512
much better. At min, buy a 256 memory stick to give you 384.
