Applied TR2 and now unable to open any documents

Paul Mansz

My problem applies to Excel and Word. No issues (so far) with Outlook.

Just applied the refresh today.

Initially experienced a problem ("The Installation of this package failed.
Please
see for more information"). There was no explanatory reference in the
message, so I downloaded it again and reapplied it, apparently successful.

Two kinds of problems now occur:
1) I cannot open any DOC/DOCX or XLS file. I get a message "The file xxx is
not available" if I open it from Windows Explorer, or (2) if I open it from
within the application I get the same error but a more explanatory error
suggesting an anti-virus s/w incompatibility and KB 835404 (which applies to
Office 2003, not the beta).

I can create a new document and save it, but cannot then open it.

Although the Beta has worked fine so far with my anti-virus (Norton AV 2007)
I ensured it was current through Liveupdate, but no change in behaviour.

Any insight would be appreciated before I go through the trouble of
uninstalling and reinstalling 2003.

thanks,

Paul
