Appling Auto Format preset designs into my existing forms

Bit of a silly question, and no doubt a easy fix, but.....

Have a program I made in Access 2003 converted to 2007 and would like to
jazz it up a little in appreance.

Opened my form, clicked "arrange" tab, clicked Autoformat and selected a new
design.

It applies the design colours, but they are only one block solid colour.
ie, does not have the wave design behind it etc.

Interestingly enought, I thought well I will just create all new forms! So
I started by creating a form and again when i selected the autoformat I
wanted, it would not display as I requested. It was just solid colour, no
pattern design inthe header at all.....

Any Ideas?

Hi Meredith,

Do you have a visible form Header section on these forms?
If not, make sure to show the form header section. Height > 0"

Try the AutoFormat command again now and let me know the results.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the input, but no did not work.

It is a Form Header.

Height is set to 3.852 cm (tried to set at 0, but wouldnot accept 0 height.
Other details from property sheet:


Visable yes
Height as above
Back Color #383265
Special Effect flat
Auto Height yes
Can grow no
Can shrink no
Display when always
keep together no
force new page none
new row or col none.
All other "all" tab items are clear.

Any other ideas?

Just thought of something and tried it.

Just started a brand new database. with a table and and form, and have the
same problem occuring.

IE, think maybe something to do with the program itself, not database
specific. Is there a setting or something that I have undone??????

Hi Meredith,

There are two issues with setting the AutoFormat in Access 2007.

First, you must have a Form Header section that is larger than 0". You've already taken care of the
first issue. (This is a bug in the program actually.)

Second, you must select the form itself before clicking the AutoFormat command. If you do not do
this step, Access does not apply the AutoFormat correctly. Make sure you have selected the Form
itself before clicking the command. If you're not sure if you have the form selected, open the
Property Sheet and select "Form" from the drop down list of form elements. Now click the AutoFormat
command and you should be good-to-go.

Ok, still not applying. selected form (checked on property sheet) applied
and again still solid colour.

Was looking at the access options. Cant see anything there.

also looked at autoformat "more options" and my friend thinks there is
something missing from my form autoformats list on the wizard.

Thyink may have deleted one when i first transferred over. was messing
around and can vaguly remember being in the wizard.

Most odd.

Are you running Service Pack for Office/Access 2007?

Do you have more than one version of Access installed on this computer?

Do you see the same issue with all AutoFormats, or is it only one in particular?

I know!

I had 2003 office, but think i have uninstalled. I checked in program and
features and had office 2003 web components. but no office 2003 that i can
see. have sp1 installed. looked on update list and have all 2007 updates,
but also office 2003 sp3? i think this should be uninstalled.?

Yesterday I ran a repair on office pro 2007, but made no difference.

ran autoformat in word, works a charm.

Pain in the butt..... LOL. sorry about the hassle. any ideas?

Hi Meredith,

Can you try another quick test for me?

Do you have a Form *Footer* section showing as well? Make sure the Height is
greater than 0 for the Footer and then try applying an AutoFormat again.

Does it work now or no change?

Hey Jeff!

Checked that before. Yep, I have a footer of 2cm. One other thing i just
discovered........ i dont have layout view on anything in access. also did
some more things, uninstalled office 2007 and all other office products on
computer. reinstalled it all and access still same as before.

Interesting thing, when i looked up layout view missing, it was going on
about compatability mode.?

my database was originally started on 2003, and imported or converted to
2007. database has extention of .accdb. i have checked access options box
that says enable layout view mode, so its not that. interesting enough
though, if i open say nothwind template i get layout view and can change the
autoformat and they work as they are supposed to! How weird is that......

Anything else i can help aid your thoughts?

Its really giving me the willies now!

format. (was on convert all picture data to bitmaps....

well go figure hey!

Unfortunately still do not have layout view. so any idea there?

On your layout issue, open each form in Design View and look for a property

I have the same problem as Meredith but my settings in:

were set correctly and my version of Office is not an upgrade nor is the
database. When I apply autoformat to my form I got a solid block of colour in
my header and not the wave that should be in the design. Ahhhhhhhhhh. I have
followed all the advice on this thread but still have the problem. Please,
please help. Many thanks.
