Apply Animation To Different Parts of Text Within Same Text Box

This used to be easy, but I'm finding it difficult in Powerpoint 2008.

My problem is, when I highlight text and add an animation (or 'Effect' as it's now called), the effect is added to *all* of the text in the text box as opposed to just the text I've highlighted.

As with most presentations, I want the various points to come up one by one, rather than all at once.

I'm really hoping someone can humiliate me badly and point out an obvious fix. Thanks!

Let me see if I have this right...
You have a Bulleted List Placeholder & you want to apply a different
Animation Effect to each bulleted item?

No problem, just a little more trouble than it used to be:)

When you first apply an Animation Effect each bulleted item in teh
placeholder inherits that Effect as you've noticed. Then click the triangle
next to the Content Placeholder (#) listed in the Custom Animation palette
to show a list of the items in that placeholder. Command/Right-Click each
one in turn & select Change Effect..., pick the effect you want, then click
Replace.

Hope this is what you're looking for:)

It almost sorted my problem (thanks), but the main issue was that I hadn't changed the 'Group Text' settings in the Text Animation section that pops up underneath the custom animation box once you've set an effect.

And to think I was beginning to think MS were taking dumbing down to a whole new level! Thanks for your help anyway.

On the note of breaking up the bulleted list placeholder - I followed the reply and was able to animate each bulleted item separately -- is there a way to animate a WORD within the bulleted item separately?

I am preparing an interactive quiz, and would love to have the sentence with a missing word, and then have the word appear.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
